According the Ministry of Interior, 5.62 million buildings in Taiwan lack quake resistence, which makes up about 70% of all residential buildings. This is of course very serious. However, if the government can coordinate and plan properly, with legislative effort, this may turn out to be a good opportunity to enhance building safety, boost domestic demand and increase employment.
