China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi’s statement regarding the ‘Constitution’ and ‘constitutional order’ caught everyone’s attention and led to many explanations. My impression [of Wang] was that his thinking was clear and logical and that he was well prepared and spoke cautiously. The background and intention behind this statement are of course worth exploring. However, it may be wishful thinking and misunderstanding if it is interpreted as [China] changing their fundamental stance. In contrast, the USA’ reaction has been relatively calm and cautious.
