Next year, there is going to be a four-month window between the general election and the handover of government. How to formalise the handover and the respective responsibilities between the incumbent and the president-elect is an ongoing debate. But at least for cross-strait and foreign policies, the incumbent should not take any major action or make any major announcement during this period. This is to prevent irresponsible and impulsive decisions before standing down and should become a convention whichever party is in power. I believe this is a principle that the majority of the public can accept.
