Taipei City Councillors, Hung Jian-yi and Hsieh Wei-chou (my son) both launched their respective Tsai Ing-wen support clubs today. Some asked why I attended [the launch] today but never showed up during Wei-chou’s campaign last year.
The reason is that I ran for the parliament and a mayoral election in Taipei before and other city councillors were already helping [Wei-chou], so I did not feel comfortable using my political influence to help my own son get elected. It wasn’t because of a rift between father and son. But Wei-chou’s launch today was for Tsai Ing-wen and Wu Si-yao (running for the parliament) in the 2016 elections, for the party’s interest and representing a positive political culture. Therefore, I had no hesitation in attending today’s event.
