I represented Tsai Ing-wen in the national Buddhist Ullambana ceremony. There were over 10,000 participants and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.
Taiwan is a pluralistic and inclusive society where various ideologies, experiences and religions can tolerate and respect each other. This is especially the case in the religious sector, which is not easy in other countries.
However, politics is extremely intolerant – zero-sum confrontations are severe. I hope that future country leaders have the wisdom like a religious master, promoting mutualism and allowing the largest possible number of lives can prosper and live happily in Taiwan.
